Mudikalayal

Mudikalayal is a special type of custom practiced by the people in the Lakshadweep Islands. The word 'Mudikalayal' means 'shaving of head'. This custom is performed on the 40th day after the birth of a child. The shorn hair of the child is ceremonially buried along with a green dwarf coconut (chenthengu). On this day, the parents of the child arrange feast and make offerings at the important mosques.
