Mud Palace at Sural




The unique 450 year old Mud Palace is situated at Sural, 20 km from Udupi. The Tulu Jain Royal family of Tolahas is known to have built the Mud Palace. They were the rulers of Udupi from medieval times to the 11th century. This place was unknown to the outside world till early 1970’s. The Mud Palace bears the distinctive stamp of local architecture. It has been declared a protected monument by the State Directorate of Archaeology and Museums and renovation work has been started.

Mangalore Airport is the nearest airport. Udupi Railway Station is the nearest railway station. The Mud Palace is reachable by road from Udupi.
