Morena District Archaeological Museum




Morena District Archaeological Museum is situated at Morena in Madhya Pradesh. Morena is about 300 km north of Bhopal.

The museum houses various statues collected from different archeological spots. These sculptures are exhibited in different rows or galleries. The main among these galleries is the Shiva gallery, where the famous Shiva statues of Uma Maheshwar, Dubkund Ganesh and Sihoniya are kept. These sculptures were chosen for the Shaiva exhibition in France.

The Jain sculptures including the 24 Tirthankars are displayed in the Jain gallery. The Shakt gallery features the huge statue of Ambika Devi standing at the entrance with a child in her lap. The statues of Kubera, Apsara, Kalashdharini are displayed in the Vividhi gallery. The Dhatu Pratima houses a beautiful metal statue of Apsara with ornaments in full decoration.

Besides all these, the museum also holds a gallery for the photos and pictures of the pre-historic age.

The museum is open from 10:30 to 16:30 hrs except on Mondays and Government holidays.

Morena Archaeological Museum can be approached by road on the National Highway 75. Morena Railway Station on the Delhi-Mumbai railway line is the nearest railhead.
