Moorang Fort

Moorang Fort is an ancient fort situated in Moorang Village, in Kinnaur District, Himachal Pradesh.

It is believed that the fort was built by Pandavas. The fort has a square structure and stands overlooking the Sutlej River. Its main gate is approachable by a detached ladder. It has a unique flat roof, unlike the local architecture, which has sloped roofs.

The fort houses the ark of the local deity Urming and there are three structures dedicated to the deity situated at Thwaring, Garmang and Shilling. The ark is taken to these three places on sacred days. The ark has 18 mukh or faces made of silver, gold and brass, which represents the 18 days of the great epic Mahabharata.

Moorang is 26 km from Powari on the National Highway 22.
