Monpa Dance

Monpa Dance is a traditional dance form of the Monpa tribe, who inhabit parts of West Kameng District and Tawang District in Arunachal Pradesh. This dance is performed during the Losar Festival, which marks the tribe’s New Year. The festivities are held for about 5 days.

The Monpa dance is performed for greeting the guests, who have arrived for the celebrations. Amid the performance, prayers are offered to ensure good events in the coming year. The enthusiasm built up during the dance is seen as a sign of elimination of the evil.
