Mongpu




Mongpu is a small village under the Kurseong sub division in Darjeeling District. It is situated about 30 km from Darjeeling and 54 km from Silguri. The village is famous for its cinchona and medicinal plant cultivation.

Guests can avail of a bungalow, a rest house and a bazaar called Reshep under the control of the Cinchon Directorate. The Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore stayed here on many occasions. The house in which he lived now serves as a museum; some of his personal effects are preserved here.

Civil Enclave Bagdogra is 126 km from Mongpu. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station is around 110 km.
