Mohauhau Dance

Mahkheda Dance



Mohauhau is a dance ceremony performed in Kamrup District of Assam. This dance ceremony is also considered as a festival by certain sections of the society. This ceremony is held on a full moon night, during the period of November-December.

This dance is performed by a group of boys. This group visits each home in their locality and performs the dance. It is performed by striking bamboo sticks on the ground and leaping and taking turns. This dance is accompanied by songs. It is believed that, by performing this ceremonial dance mosquitoes will be driven away.
