Melkote, a temple town situated about 50 km north of Mysore, is one of India’s best preserved places featuring the cultural heritage of yesteryears. This town flourished during the twelfth century and was the centre of cultural and religious activities. It was home to Acharya Ramanuja, a great south Indian philosopher.

Melkote is renowned for the Cheluvaraya Swami temple and the Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple. This town is famous for the Vairamudi festival celebrated during March-April. Other festivals include Teppotsavam and the birth anniversaries of prominent saints. Also to be noted are the folk festivals like the Angamani, which have been incorporated into the temple rituals.
