Held after the completion of the harvesting of the paddy crop, Mela Madai is a festival mainly celebrated by the
Gonds of
Mandla District. It is celebrated daily for a week following
Diwali. The head of the village inaugurates the festival. People celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, they dance and sing day and night, and special food items are prepared in their houses.
