Charaideo, the erstwhile capital of the Ahom kingdom, is host to the annual Me Dam Me Phi ceremony. The kings belonging to the Ahom dynasty are paid homage in this ceremony, which is observed during March.
Charaideo was the burial site for the kings of the Ahom dynasty. This place is therefore of great significance, a holy place for the descendants of the illustrious rulers. They gather every year for the Me Dam Me Phi ceremony, a tradition that has been carried out for more than 700 years. During the ceremony the blessings of the ancestors are sought.
