Matho Nagrang Festival

Nagrang Festival, a popular event, is held at Matho Monastery in Thikse. It falls on 14th and 15th days of the first Bodhi month.

During this festival, two oracles, named Rongzam, perform a trance-like dance. This dance is performed in Gonkhang room of the gompa. The oracles perform a number of acrobatic feats. They also run over the high ramparts of the monastery and jump from one balcony to another, while performance. On the first day their depictions are evil-minded and peaceful on the other day.

People from far and near gather here to hear the predictions of the oracles.
