Matheran




Matheran is situated in the Matheran range of the Sahyadris at a height of 2516 ft, about 104 km from Mumbai. The lush green surroundings, the silence of the woods and the peaceful environment of this hill station invite a large number of tourists. Matheran has 38 points at which one can relish nature's beauty. Notable among these are the Echo point, King George point, Charlott Lake, Louisa Point, and Panorama point. There is also a bazaar where you can make your shopping. Tourists can stay at the hotels and other lodging and boarding facilities that are available in the hill station.

All motor vehicles are banned in Matheran, thus leaving the atmosphere clean and healthy. The only mode of transport, other than walking, is on horseback and hand-pulled rickshaws.

The nearest airport is at Mumbai which is about 100 km from Matheran. Best time to visit is April to May. Neral is the nearest railhead (21 km) connected to Mumbai, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra. State transport buses regularly operate from Mumbai and Pune.
