Matangini's Statue

Matangini statue is situated near the Tamluk Jail in Midnapore District. It was built in the memory of Matangini Harza who devoted herself to the non cooperation movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. When, she along with a group of freedom fighters proceeded to Tamluk jail in 1942, police protested and fired on them. In that incident, Matangini died on the spot carrying the National flag of India. The statue was erected in the same spot where Matangini took her last breath.
