Also known as Mrityunjaya Mahadeo, Matangesvara Temple is situated at
Khajuraho in the
Chhatarpur District of
Madhya Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva. Built entirely of sandstone, it enshrines an eight feet high
shivling. The exterior and interior of the temple, as well as the pillars are without carvings but the ceilings are formed of overlapping concentric courses.
Aartis are performed in the morning and the evening.
Mahashivratri is the major festival celebrated here.
