Mata Renuka Temple




Mata Renuka Temple is an important pilgrimage site in Bhind District of Madhya Pradesh. The temple is located at Jamdara in Gohad near Mau. Gohad is believed as the birthplace of Lord Parasurama.

This beautiful temple enshrines the statue Mother Renuka with a separated head. Folklore associated to Parasurama is that his father, Maharshi Jamdagni, ordered to cut the head of Mother Renuka which he complied with and as a prize asked for revival of the dead Mother. The temple was built at the place, where this activity is believed to be occurred.

Bhind Railway Station is the nearest railhead. By road, Gohad is linked with Gwalior, Bhind, Agra, Etawah and Morena.
