Markandi



Markandi, a picturesque village, is situated near Harsil in Uttarkashi District. It lies at an altitude of 2,300 m, in the Bhagirathi Valley. It is believed that Markandeya lived here. During winter the deity of Gangotri is brought here and worshipped.

The place offers an excellent view of snow-clad peaks. River Ganga flows close by. Nearby interesting places include Sukhi, Kedar Tal, Dayara Bugyal, Gangotri Glacier, Dharali and Jhala.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh.
