Markama Temple




Markama Temple is located at Bissamcuttack in Rayagada District of Orissa. The presiding deity is Goddess Markama, the revered goddess of the Dongaria Kondh tribe.

The sanctum also enshrines the idol of Markama's spouse, Niamraja. The goddess is represented by a natural boulder. The face of the idol is covered with red powder and is adorned with silver eye, tongue, and nose, as well as a crown. The idol is surrounded by seven swords.

Bissamcuttack is easily accessible by road as it is on the State Highway. Bissamcuttack Railway Station is on the Titlagarh-Rayagada rail route.
