Mariamman Temple

Mariamman Temple is a highly revered shrine located at Wayanad. Dedicated to Goddess Mariamma, it is believed that Pazhassi Raja gifted this temple to a tribal chieftain. That was in recognition of the valorous part they played during a battle against the British. During the main festival (February-March), devotees assemble here in large numbers and offer worship to the main deity. During the occasion, various cultural activities are held. The idol of Mother Mariamma is noted for its superb artistry. Apart from the one devoted to Mariamma, the temple has many mini shrines. The nearest railhead is at Kozhikode and Calicut International Airport is the nearest airport.
