Pondicherry is renowned for its special variety of silk fabric called Marble silk. It is so called because of its smoothness and texture, which resembles a marble. It is usually dyed in rich shades.
This fabric, which was previously used in the making of traditional clothes, has been adopted for modern clothes. It is used in the making of the kurta (tradition shirt), modern style shirts and dresses of children.
