Marathakkara is a quiet hamlet located 10 km from
Thrissur, the cultural city of
Kerala. The village is an industrial area, with numerous tile factories and it is blessed by Thrikkur River.
Thrikkur Rock Cave Temple, one of the famous cave temples, is situated near Marathakkara. The village is home to the Marathakkara Kalari Temple, Kanakassery Siva temple, a Roman Catholic Church and a convent. Marathakkara Kalari, a 400-year-old Kalari, also functions here.
Marathakkara, on Thrissur–Thrikkur route, can be accessed by bus. The nearest railhead is Thrissur Railway Station.
