Mansar Lake




Mansar is a beautiful lake, situated about 40 km south of Udhampur, on the Udhampur Samba Road, in Jammu and Kashmir. Bordered by hills and covered with splendid forest, the lake is a favorite tourist spot in the state.

Boating facilities are available on the spot. The lake features a walk way all around with projected view decks for the tourists to enjoy flickering of seasonal birds, tortoise and fishes of different species.

Mansar also has religious important owing to the Sheshnag shrine, located on the eastern banks of the lake. Two ancient temples dedicated to Umapati Mahadev and Narasimha and a Durga temple are situated in the vicinity. On festive occasion large numbers of people take holy dip in the lake.

Tourists can witness the traditional and typical distinct life style of Gujjar and Bakarwals community, embellished in ethnic costumes, living in open Kullhas around the hills of Mansar Lake.

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism organizes a food and crafts festival here, annually around Baisakhi.
