Mannan Tribe

Mannans are the natives of Thekkady. They are also found in Adimali, Kattappana, and Nedumkandam block panchayats. Some of them occupy the regions of Azhutha, Devikulam and Idukki block panchayats.

These people are distinguished by their intrinsic customs and traditions. Each tribal settlement has a king. The language they speak is Tamil or Malayalam. A significant feature of Mannan tribe is that they lend their farm and produce to the rich and do manual labor in their own plots. They also depend on the forest products for their livelihood. Fishing, honey-collecting, and cattle breeding are other occupations.
