Manikyamba Aalayam




Manikyamba Aalayam, one of the Shakti peethas in India, is a famous temple located close to Kotipalli in West Godavari District. Goddess Parvati is revered here in the form of Manikyamba.

The beautiful idol of Manikayamba, 3 ft in height, is the major attraction. The great sage Agastya is believed to have stayed here for many years. Legend says that goddess Sati burnt herself when insulted by her father at this place. This shrine is also associated with Veda Vyasa, the epic poet and goddess Annapoorneshwari.

There are four entrances to the temple. A steady stream of visitors come here throughout the year. The temple houses the idols of Dunduganapathi, Virupaksha, Nataraja, Mahishasura Mardini and Subramanya. It is also noted for its 14th century architecture.

The nearest railhead is at Kakinada. By road, Ramachandrapuram is easily accessible.
