Maniar is a prominent town in Bansidh
taluk of
Ballia District,
Uttar Pradesh. It lies on the banks of the
Ghaghra and close to
Bihar state border.
Maniar, in its days of yore, was an important river port on the Ghaghra River, importing rice and other grains from Gorakhpur and Basti and exporting sugar and coarse cotton cloth of local produce and oil to Bengal. It was also famous for the manufacture of tikulis (small round pieces of ornamental glass used for adorning the forehead of women of certain regions of North India or for decorating of fabrics and costumes).
Maniar is directly connected by road with Bansidh, Sikandarpur and Belthara Road. Belthara Road Railway Station and Varanasi Airport are its major access points.
