Mangona

Chugana

Mangona, also known as Chugana, is a post-funeral ceremony of the Garos of Meghalaya. A small hut made of bamboo known as 'delang' is constructed at the yard of the house. The decayed bones of the deceased are kept in a clay container and is buried by the side of the house.

Soon after the burial, the visitors are served with beef and pork. Dances and music are performed throughout the night. This ceremonial dance is accompanied with concave brass cymbals and ringing sounds of reeds.
