Manangeeswarar Temple




Manangeeswarar Temple is at Meenjur near Chennai. This is an ancient temple which was renovated by the Chola and Pandya Kings. The temple deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Sugantheeswarar. There is a worship place for Goddess Thiruvudaiamman. The temple contains many inscriptions which have great historical importance. The sculptural works and paintings are also significant. The main festivals are Pournami and Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrated in the Tamil month of Masi (February–March) and Chitra (April-May) respectively. The temple can be approached by traveling 28 km from Chennai by bus or train.
