Mana Basa

Mana Basa is celebrated on every Thursday during the time of harvest season in Orissa. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped with varieties of cakes and other delicacies. Goddess is represented by a particular variety of whitish paddy that is placed in a grain measure (Mana).

The lady of the house fasts and worships the goddess. Only the members of the family take part in the oblations. Else, the goddess may leave the household of the worshipper. Last Thursday of the month is considered very important.
