Malaprabha River originates in the Western Ghats, at an altitude of 792 m above the sea level. After traveling east and then in north-east direction, the river eventually joins the river Krishna
at Kudala Sangama
. The length of the river is about 304 km.
The Bennihalla, Hirehalla and the Tas Nadi are the main tributaries. These rivers have a total catchment area of about 11,549 sq km in Karnataka.
