Makalidura Hill

Makalidura Hill, also known as Gunjur Hill, is situated at Makalidurga village, 12 km from Ghati Subramanya. It is near Gunjur village on the way to Gowribidanur from Doddaballapur, from where it can be reached by walking 3 km through an irregular route covered all over with rocks and bush wood. On the top of the hill is a magazine house called as Maddinanave built out of brick and mortar with an oval shaped window-like opening. Near the summit are four small ponds, a series of dilapidated fort walls and a temple housing the statue of Linga and Nandi and two Dwarapalakas, where villagers visit on Mondays to offer prayers. It is said that Sage Markandeya performed his penance here for a long time.

This place is connected by buses from Doddaballapur. The nearest railway station is Makali Durga railway station. Accommodation facilities are available at Doddaballapur or Ghati Subramanya.
