Mahakuteshwara Temples




Mahakuteshwara Temples, built around the early Chalukya period, is situated at Mahakuta (Dakshina Kashi), which is 5 km from Badami in Karnataka. It is a group of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Among the group, Sangameshwara is an important temple, which has a sanctum and a portico. In the sanctum, there is a sculptured niche in each cardinal offset and carries a huge shikhara. Sangameshwara temple resembles the temples of Aihole.

A natural pond called Vishnu Pushkarni is located a few kilometers from the temple.
