Mahabodhi Home for the Aged, Handicapped and Destitute




Started in 1995 by Venerable Sanghasena, Mahabodhi Home for the Aged, Handicapped and Destitute is situated in Leh District, Jammu and Kashmir. It provides a caring environment with free food, clothing, lodging and medical attention for homeless and disabled senior citizens as well as those youngsters who need special attention.

The old age home now accommodates 27 residents up to the age of 85 including physically and mentally handicapped residents. Regular health care check-ups are conducted at the Karuna Charitable Hospital. The residents are given encouragement to be an active participant in the social activities. Regular exercises, Dhamma classes and Dharma discussions are held at the home.

The students from Mahabodhi Residential School visit the home regularly to provide companionship, which also helps the students to develop love, respect and care towards the old.
