Maghotsav

Maghotsav is the main festival of the Brahmos. It is observed during the 11th day of Magha (January), to mark the anniversary of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious movement founded by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. Brahmos all over the world celebrate this festival with traditional fervor and gaiety. Prayers and singing of devotional hymns form part of this festival.

In India, Maghotsav is celebrated in all the Brahmo Samajas and the Brahmo educational institutions as well. However, in Kolkata, the main seat of Brahmoism, week long celebrations are carried out in the main Samajas. On the special days of the celebrations, food is also provided at the centers. After the celebrations the focus shifts to the provincial Samajas scattered all over West Bengal.

Tagore's Shantiniketan is also a venue of this festival.
