Lushei Tribal Costume

The people belonging to the Lushei tribe of Tripura dress in a very simple manner. The people weave their own clothes.

A Lushei woman wears a dark blue cotton cloth over her waist. This cloth is wrapped once around the lower body, forming a skirt-like knee length costume. The cloth is held together by a girdle of brass wire or string. The upper body is covered by a short white jacket. A girl wears a colorful headdress while dancing on a festive occasion. It contains a decorative flower-like object made from brass and cane, decorated with porcupine quills and parrot feathers tipped with red wool tufts.

A Lushei man wears a narrow piece of cloth on the lower body. He wears a shirt while traveling.
