Son of
Lord Brahma, Lord Vishwakarma is the presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. In the
Rig Veda, Vishwakarma is marked the divine craftsman of the whole universe. He is the epitome of creative power.
This god is painted white with a club in the right hand and tools in the left hand. A crown, a necklace of gold and rings on his wrists are the other identification marks.
In the Mahabharata, Vishwakarma is considered the lord of arts, the executor of handicrafts, the carpenter of gods and the most eminent artist. He has exhaustive knowledge of Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and architecture.
Flying chariots, especially the Pushpak Vimaan, numerous immortal weapons and palaces are his creations. He is the builder of Lanka (Ravana’s kingdom), Dwarka (the city of Lord Krishna), Hastinapur (the capital of the Kauravas and Pandavas) and the town of Indraprastha. Agneyastra (fire weapon) and Sudarsana Chakra (the weapon of Lord Vishnu) are also among his wonderful creations.
Above all, he is an immortal god, worshipped by people throughout. Hindus perform
Vishwakarma Puja on September 17 in order to increase productivity and to get divine inspiration in making new products.
