Loin Loom Weaving

Laichamphi

Loin Loom Weaving is a traditional textile weaving confined to the tribal womenfolk of Manipur. Also known as Laichamphi, this art of textile weaving is well known for its elegant designs, unique colour combination and lasting texture. Each and every Manipuri house has a loin loom. Originally, cotton yarns were used as raw materials. Now they also use woolen yarns instead of cotton yarns.

Traditionally, Manipuri tribal weavers used to weave traditional dress on loin loom to cater to the local demands and requirements only. Today, products woven on this loom have good demand. The traditional dresses, bags and dresses of various designs are exquisite and are always visitor's delight.
