Linganamakki Reservoir




Linganamakki Reservoir is an ideal picnic spot located at Linganamakki in Shimoga District.

Built across Sharavati River at about 1,900 ft above sea level, it is one of the oldest hydro electric projects in India and the main source of hydro-electric power supply in Karnataka. This reservoir has a capacity of 152 TMC and the catchments area is approximately 2,000 sq km.

A major portion of Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, on the eastern side, is occupied by the reservoir. Boating and bird watching can be enjoyed. Accommodation facility is available at the forest rest house at Mupanne, close to the reservoir.

Jog Falls, the highest waterfall in India, is 6 km away.
