Lingampally

Lingampally in Rangareddy district is famous as a megalithic burial site. This historical site was first reported in 1935 by D.G. Mackenzie, a resident of Hyderabad. It is presently located in the premises of the University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli. Many objects of architectural importance such as red-ware urn-posts with appliqué designs at shoulder level, along with megalithic pottery types of black and red have been excavated from this place.

The excavation has helped to trace a complete picture of human activity from the Mesolithic/upper Paleolithic times to Neolithic and from Neolithic to Megalithic/Iron age times in and around Hyderabad, for a period ranging from 10,000 BC to 1000 BC.

Lingampalli Railway Station on the Hyderabad-Vikarabad rail route, serves this region.
