Lamjei

Lamjei is an indigenous running race popular in Manipur. The competitors are limited to 'pannas' (Revenue/Administrative Units). The length of the race is usually 800 m.

The first part of the race includes heats, two pannas at a time. The contestant who wins the heats run again, till each athlete has competed. The ultimate champion is the one who wins the race of the year. However, the victor can be declared only when he touches the kanglasha or the dragon inside the palace enclosure.
