Lakshminath Bezbarua




Lakshminath Bezbarua (1868-1938) was a famous writer of Assam. He is called Sahityarathi by the people of Assam. He was an excellent poet, a gifted essayist and a distinguished journalist, a pioneering writer of modern Assamese literature. He established the Asamiya Bhasaunnati Sadhini Sabha in 1889, an organisation with the cause of upholding the literary and cultural tradition of Assam. Lakshminath Bezbarua is the writer who brought Assam literature into the path of modernity. Unfortunately, he did not receive the recognition that was due to him in his lifetime.
