Ladin

Also known as Ladainha, Ladin is a thanksgiving ritual of the Christians of Goa. The word 'Ladin' literally means a litany to the Virgin Mary. It is performed for material and spiritual benefits. The preparation for Ladin would begin with the purchase of grams, branco wine, candles, colored tinsel paper from the local market. On the day of this ritual people decorate their family altar with flowers and creepers. The Ladin consists of a litany accompanied by violin, hymns and prayers.
