Kuzhippillykavu Jaladurga Temple

Situated at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam District, Kuzhippillykavu Jaladurga Temple is submerged under water for a good part of the year. This west facing temple is dedicated to rudrakshashila, which is self-consecrated. It is believed that the idol is a single manifestation of Durga, Saraswati and Bhadrakali forms of the goddess.

The sanctum of the temple is situated at a depth of 12 ft from ground level. In front of the sanctum are two idols consecrated to Lord Ganesh and Lord Ayyappa. The temple has a sacred grove, to the south-east, where the idols of Santhi Durga, Nagaraja and Brahmarakshas are worshipped.

Submerging of the temple usually corresponds to the monsoon. At that time devotees believe that the Gods are indulging in Jalaneerattu (a bath in the water). A trident, which represents the Devi, is installed at the temple premises during this time.

The main festival of this temple falls on the days of Aswathy and Bharani of Meenam month (April-May). A lot of devotees from far-off places flock to the temple during this festival.

Kuzhippillykavu Jaladurga Temple is around 16 km from Angamaly and 30 km from Kochi.
