Kunup is located in East Sikkim District. It lies near the Indo-China border.

Kunup is about 30 km east of Gangtok. Rangpochu River flows nearby.

The nearest airport is Civil Enclave Bagdogra at Bagdogra and railhead is Darjeeling Railway Station.
