Kunti Temple

Built in the north Indian rekha style without any jagamohana or hall, Kunti Temple is one of the three temples at the top of the Mahendragiri hill. Situated at an altitude of 30 ft, the main attraction of this temple is the Gokarneshwar Linga that is amystery to the devotees. Any amount of water poured into the ear of the cow-head shaped stone, soon disappears and never overflows. It is unknown where all this water goes. The temple, layered with lime, has two inscriptions dating back to the 12th century. Kunti temple also houses sub-deities like Ganesh, Kartikeya and Parvati. Kunti Temple is easily accessible from Paralakhemundi which is about 120 km from Brahmapur via Palasa (Andhra Pradesh). One has to travel from Paralakhemundi to Kainpur (46 km) by bus and then to Burkhat pass (5 km) by jeep and finally proceed to the Mahendragiri hill (10 km) on foot or by jeep.
