Kunthunath

Kunthunath is the 17th tirthankar among the 24 Jain Tirthankars. He was born to Queen Shri Devi, wife of king Shursen of Hastinapur in Uttar Pradesh. Since the queen saw a heap of gemstones known as Kunthu in her dreams during her pregnancy, the new born child was named Kunthu Kumar.

After a long and peaceful reign in his kingdom for several years, Kunthunath became an ascetic. He gained omniscience on the third day of the bright half of the month of Chaitra under a Tilak tree in Sahasramara jungle outside Hastinapur.

Kunthunath attained Nirvana at Mount Parasnath (Samet Shikar). He had around 35 disciples. Jain Tirthankaras are generally identified by their symbols; Male Goat is the emblem of Lord Kunthunath.
