Kunjunni

Kunjunni (commonly called Kunjunni Master), renowned poet from Kerala, initiated a novel style of poetic composition with his short poems. (The name is sometimes spelt Kunhunni.) His poems, collected in about a dozen books, are often 2 or 3 lines long and noted for their pithy, crisp style. Though often categorized as children’s literature, these humorous and gently mocking poems open up a world of social and philosophical ideas and are powerfully thought-provoking.

Born in 1927 at Valappad in Thrissur District, Kunjunni is a school teacher by profession, and though highly revered as a poet, has always stood apart from mainstream Malayalam literature.
