Kumarar Koyil




Kumarar Koyil is located at Ilanji near Tenkasi, Tirunelveli District. It is 5 km from Tenkasi and 3 km from Kutralam.

Facing east, the temple has 2 entrances, 2 prakarams, an ardhamandapam, mani mandapam and maha mandapam. The temple which dates back to the 15th century is adorned with a three tiered gopuram. The sacred tree of the temple is Magizha Maram.

The principal deity of the temple is Kumaran (Muruga) with his consorts Valli and Devayani. The temple also has shrines to Surya, Dakshinamurthy, Saptamatas, Jwarahareswarar, Venugopalar, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakashi, Kutrala Nathar, Shanmukhar.

Skanda Shashti is a 6 day festival which is celebrated here in a grand manner. Chittirai Vishu (Tamil new year day) and Kartikai asterism in the month of Aadi are auspicious days.
