Kukuyiphetho Dance




Kukuyiphetho dance, performed by the Chakhesang tribe of Nagaland, is well known for its excellent choreography. A rich man gives a grand feast called Zhothomuza in order to show his kindness and fellow feelings as also to acquire a distinct status of respect in society. The main feature of this festival is the Kukuyiphetho dance, which is taken out as a procession by all able-bodied men in full costumes. The dancers sing melodious songs in different octaves along with the dance, characterized by fast and complex footwork, which keeps changing as the dancers move round in a circle.
