Kuknur, famous for its old temples, is a small town in
Koppal District of
Karnataka. It is about 40 km from
Hospet and 7 km from
Itagi. The Mallikarjuna, Kalleswara and
Navalinga temples here respresent the Chalukyan and Rastrakuta architecture. A temple dedicated to Mahamaya is also here.
Kuknur was a great center of learning in medieval times. It had a ghatika (college of higher learning) as well.
Koppal Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Hubli Airport is the nearest airport.
