Koyas




The Koyas are one of the leading communities of Lakshadweep. They are the chief land owning class of the society and enjoy high social status in the islands. The Koyas of Andrott, Kavaratti, and Kalpeni are believed to be the descendants of Namboothiri and Nair clans of Kerala. They play a prominent role in the society and considered themselves superior to others.
