Kotipalli



Kotipalli, also known as Kumararama and Koti Teertham, is located near Kakinada in East Godavari District. It is one of the Pancharama Temples of Lord Shiva who is worshipped here as Sri Someswara Swami and the Goddess Parvati as Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavaru. Kotipalli is located at confluence of the Godavari River with the Bay of Bengal and is a sacred place with legend and tradition.

According to legend, Chandra, the moon god, was cursed by Daksha to lose his brilliance. He was relieved of his curse only after he offered worship to Shiva at Kotipalli or Koti Theertham. It is said that a holy dip in the river is a symbolic representation of a new beginning in life. During the month of Krithika and on the Shivratri day, this holy dip at Kotipalli is considered very special.

Kotipalli is 38 km from Kakinada and 48 km from Rajahmundry. The nearest railway station is at Kakinada.
